Back when I still ate red meat, I thought Burger King was the worst of the worst. Seriously, Wendy’s you shits.
But to rank from memory:
1: In-N-Out
2: Smashburger
3: Burger-Fi
4: Jake’s Wayback
5: Shake Shack
6: Wendy’s
7: Getting set on fire
8: Five Guys
Five Guys is just grease on grease on grease and is gross. I have no idea why people think it’s so good.
BONUS: RANKINGS OF FRIES:
1: In-N-Out well done
2: Five Guys Cajun-style
3: In-N-Out regular
4: Five Guys regular
5: All life in the universe meeting a horrifying, agonizing end
6: Shake Shack
Seriously, Shake Shack fries are a war crime. They are so horrible I feel like the goal was to create the worst fries in the world. And they were successful.

I am not the biggest fan of FG, but I have to defend their burgers. The toppings make them. It’s the most “backyard” fast food burger I can think of.
Glad to see someone else that knows and loves the wonder of In-N-Out fries well done... They’re so good. Literally their only competition are those weird battered fries you get at those high end southwest burger chains (with the most famous probably being Burger Lounge...and if you’re going to add Smashburger, which I don’t even count as proper fast food, Burger Lounge obliterates them).

Look, I can appreciate the quality of an In’N’Out burger as anyone else (I’ll always stop for one when I’m in AZ or CA), but their fanboys are like the Glock faithful merged with anyone who insists on buying all their albums on vinyl. While each one of their preferences and tastes have objective merits and desirable traits, a finished product is still the sum of its respective parts, and that sum is experienced differently by the individual user.
That being said, the whole lot of you lunatics is objectively wrong.
1. Steak’n’Shake (all day, every day).
2a. Blake’s Lotaburger (New Mexico and El Paso only chain, like In’N’Out, but with green chile)
2b. Whataburger (but only because the Green Chile Double is on the menu; wider market than Blake’s)
3. In’N’Out (yes, it’s good...but not good to the point where evangelism is necessary)
4. Jack in the Box (Ultimate Double Cheeseburger? Yes please, with a side of tacos.)
5. Five Guys (it’s good...but because of how they wrap it, it’s always kind of soggy)
6. Sonic (occasional availability of green chile is nice, but I doubt Sonic does this nationwide)
7. McDonald’s (“I’m not a calculus teacher, but I’m pretty sure everyone’s lying!”)
8. Just about everything else (*shrug*)
9. Being hit by a car repeatedly while being serenaded by Kenny G
10. Bob’s Burgers in Brazil...objectively and undeniably the single worst hamburger I have ever experienced in 38 years of living.

Actually, it’s still reliant on the “meat” for the flavor. Someone let the cat out of the bag a couple of years ago: the secret to In’N’Out’s burgers is the same as ShakeShack. They both use 60/40 ground beef.

The closest one is down in a particularly rough part of Renton far from a freeway. It isn’t worth the trip for me... Next closest is Kent, then Tacoma, then north of Everett. The closest ones convenient to a freeway are in Tacoma or beyond. I have no clue why none are nearby or readily accessible.

The US has a lot of fast food options; I think the only one that Canadians have over Americans is Harvey’s, which is think is good for a quick burger.
Still, it usually comes down to a choice of Harvey’s, Wendy’s, Mcdonalds, or Burger King. A&W is decent around here if you can find one. Five Guys is the “premium” option that’s become reasonably popular around here - I just can’t fathom spending nearly $20 CAD for a burger and fries. I’ve only eaten there once but it was decent.

Why no 5 guys? I’m on the east coast so a good fast food burger is tough to come by. I agree that In n Out is the best, but I’m probably a day from the closest one. Near me Buddy Burger is my personal favorite, but 5 guys is right after (sloppy as it may be). A lot of my co workers tout Shake Shack, but I think it’s trash. I also would not touch food from DQ in around here, although I can’t quite say why.
It’s my firm opinion that fast food in general is much better and much more consistent out west.

The (Slightly Revised) Oppositelock Handbook forbids me for calling you out, so I won’t. But you are wrong at every level.
The only remarkable thing about In-n-Out is the cute way the kids cut the potatoes before they fry them. The fries are otherwise lame, the burgers, in spite of the cute paper wrapper they get, are unremarkable, and there’s nothing remarkable about the shakes, either.
Go to Five Guys and eat fries and skip the burger.
I will pretend that I did not read this post of yours.

How can this list be taken seriously without Whataburger at #1? Much less at all!
